The winningest driver in Lebanon Valley Speedway history added another trophy to his case on Saturday night as Kenny Tremont captured the 36th Annual ‘Race of Kings’ Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series Championship. “The restarts are so important out here and we were good on all of them tonight,” said Tremont as he climbed atop the roof of his no. 115 S&S Asphalt Spl. in victory lane as thunder clapped in the background and lightning flashed across the sky overhead. “Its always nice to win at the end of the season and this race has a lot of history to live up to.” Four-time race winner Brett Hearn settled for runner-up laurels ahead of recently crowned Luck of the draw put Tremont in 10th-place on the 30-car Small-Block starting grid and the West Sand Lake, N.Y. pilot cracked the top-five for the first-time on lap 15. Pole-sitter Danny Johnson paced the field early in his unlettered no. 1t Troyer entry and remained out front when the first yellow flag flew on lap 20 as second-generation driver Neil Stratton sat parked high in turn four. Tremont had overtaken Chris Shultz for fourth when the second slowdown came on lap 22 after Sean Gallivan had careened into the turn two outside retaining wall. Upon impact the Gallivan machine slid back across the track in front of the trailing pack to collect tour follower Lance Willix II who slammed into him with no place to go. Only two more laps could be scored before another turn two tangle stopped the action for the third and final time. On this occasion, local runners Tom Faxon and J.C. Flach were involved with north country invader Mark Smoke to initiate contact on lap 24. At the midway point Tremont had wrestled away the runner-up spot from Hearn and set his sights on leader Johnson while Heffner looked on from fourth as Hoard and Shultz battled further back for fifth-place. Back under green for the duration, Tremont challenged Johnson for three straight laps before finally ducking underneath for good on the 29th circuit as the leaders navigated through turn four. Heffner continued to pressure the leaders, grabbing third from Hearn on lap 31 and sneaking underneath Johnson for the runner-up position three laps later. Hearn regrouped to grab back the show position on lap 38 and waited right until the very end to snag second-place away from Heffner. Under the checkers, Tremont scored his second DIRTcar 358-Modified win of the season at Lebanon Valley by nearly a straightaway over Hearn and Heffner, with Hoard charging into fourth as Johnson almost faded out of the top-five. Tremont pocketed $3,000 for his latest ‘Race of Kings’ victory at The Valley and collected valuable points towards the overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Championship. The top-10 was filled by Shultz, Alan Johnson, Racing in the Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series continues next weekend on both sides of the border when SKIDMARKS Originally expected to debut his new candy apple red paint scheme at Super DIRT Week next month, Tremont got a head start in front of photographers as the no. 115 was most prominent in the winner’s circle on Saturday night…..Four past ‘Race of Kings’ champions helped fill the field with Tremont (2) joined by four-time winners Hearn and Bachetti, and Danny Johnson with a pair of first-place trophies…..With round #5 of the 14-race Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series in the record book, Frenchman Mario Clair holds a 17-point advantage in the current standings followed by Carey Terrance Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series Race #4 – Lebanon Valley Speedway, September 8, 2007 ‘Race of Kings’ Event Summary FIN STR CAR# DRIVER 1 10 115 Kenny Tremont/ 2 7 4* Brett Hearn/Sussex,NJ 3 8 5 J.R.
