Hewitt and Ricci get the Checkers in Twin 20's; Making it 7 for 7 at LVS |

But once again, Howard Commander's high banks stayed dry, for the most part as the rain made just a brief appearance, only to help the racing surface, and cool the heated fans for all the action on the track. The first of the Twin 20 lap events got under way early in the night, with the #24 of John Hewitt at the point. When the green flew, Hewitt sounded the alarms, and took off to another zip code. Back in the field the #4 of Andy Bachetti, who ran a back-up car for the rest of the night, had to start at the rear of the field, and struggled to pass cars to get toward the front. He could only get as high as 17th. Back in the field with Bachetti was the #21J of Jeff Trombley, and the #74 of J.R. Heffner. The #115 of Tremont finally found the sweet spot and got into the second spot at about the halfway point. It was too late for anyone to get to #24 of Hewitt as he took the checkers for win #1 of 2007. Second was Tremont, followed by Wayne Jelley, Ryan Larkin, and Dickie Larkin to round out the top 5. The modified feature, part II, began much like the first, this time, it was the part-timer, Rick Ricci Jr. driving the #406R to the point at the drop of the green. It seemed like De Ja Vu for the rest of the field as Bachetti struggled to get a handle on the track, and finished just outside the top 10 in 14th. J.R. Heffner charged his #74 to another top 10 finish. The #21J of Jeff Trombley got to 11th, and the #34 of Steve Hough battled to crack the top 10 as well. Tremont drove his #115 to yet another solid top 5 finish. But right from the start, it was Ricci, leading every lap, taking his first win of 2007. Following Ricci was Mark Flach, Guy Sheldon, Keith Flach, and Kenny Tremont crossing the line 5th. The Sportsman division made it only past the first lap, before the field came under yellow, as contact on the front stretched forced the #00 of Chris Kokosa into the outside wall, ending his evening early. At the drop of the next green, it was the #122 of Wayne Keyes out front, that's right, the #122, and he powered out to a strong lead, only to keep getting slowed by cautions. Finally after several yellows, the eighth place starter, the Alligator Art Collins, took advantage of cooler tires, and powered past Keyes to take the top spot. And once the #68 took over, not even a few more cautions could hold back the Alligator from taking the checkers. At the line, it was Collins, followed by Jeff Watson, Danny Sanchez, Frankie Harper, and Wayne Keyes held on to finish 5th, a career high. The Pro Stock event was full of excitement, as the #78 of Paul LaRochelle was in control early in the 20 lap event. By lap 6, the field slowed by a multi-car incident on the backstretch involving a good portion of the field. The #324 of Jason Casey, the #315 of Jon Routhier, the #38M of Mike Middleton, and few others. Most were able to continue. Making their way through the field was the #24 of Robbie Speed, along with the #8 of Jay Corbin, and the #54L of Jimmy Langenback. But it was Corbin who got to the bumper of the #78 first just after halfway. The two battled for a few short laps, as Corbin dove under the #78 of LaRochelle coming out of turn 4. Corbin's car seemed on a rail, even as the two made minor contact down the front stretch. Corbin prevailed, steering the #8 to the top spot on lap 12. LaRochelle faded, as he suffered a left front flat on lap 13. The #24 didn't have enough speed to catch the #8, as Jay Corbin takes his second of 2007. Corbin was followed by Jim Langenback, Kevin Arnold, Mike Middleton, and Chris Crews. The #24 of Speed who crossed the line 3rd was later disqualified during post race inspection. The Limited Pro Stocks saw the #98 of Justin Herron take his 2nd of 2007, followed by Dave Colwell, Jery Helms, Joe Mennite, and Rob Maxon finishing 5th. Pure Stocks were nearly 50 strong again, packed into 3 eight lap events. Pure Stock #1 saw Randy Myers power his #57P to the top spot, winning his 1st of 2007 Pure Stock #2 had the Tom Murphy cruise to the victory aboard his #13P. And Pure Stock #3 offered some excellent wheel to wheel battles, with the #013P of Jesse Murphy taking the checkers. Next Saturday night, it's the Greylock FCU presenting the Pyx106 "Eye Rock 500". In addition to all classes being on tap for a full card of events, a special fund raising effort will take place with blind drivers at the wheel of race cars, competing for a huge prize.
